Because there is nothing dramatic to be seen, the sufferer is often treated like a hypochondriac. It is much easier to understand a fever in someone with pneumonia, or why there is pain in a broken limb, but much harder to understand that nervously ill people also have disabling symptoms too. If the person who is obviously physically ill or injured then becomes distressed or depressed, it will then be seen as part of their illness and treated with concern.
People with nervous disorders often get little or no sympathy unless they become seriously ill and need medical attention, by then it has often gone too far.
Why is so hard for people to understand when someone is suffering from a nervous/mental disorder? Is it just that we need educating or maybe just cannot be bothered to try to understand.
